** Cuffed And Stuffed **
*** Fire
Truck 742 ***
by Bobby Mac
part 2 of 14 (fire truck
742)
Alicia got out of her chair and walked to the door
sighing, "I suppose I'd better watch the boys, so they
don't completely ruin the family's reputation". Once
out the door, Alicia ran and caught up with the boys. They
watched the traffic for a while and decided either the crooks were
long gone or had left by a different route. They were heading back
down the drive when they heard a noise that made them head back
to the gate, it was the siren of a fire engine. As the fire
engine got closer, Douglas got excited, "It's them!!",
he said, "it has to be them!!". "Them who?",
said Alicia grabbing him by the arm and trying hard to make him
stand still. "The robbers of course!!!" he
exclaimed. "And how in the wonderment of your tiny mind
did you figure that out?" said Alicia giving him one of
those looks, the every young brother, or in this case, young
cousin knows. Douglas looked at his cousin Karl, "And I
thought she was the brainy one, I'm glad I don't have a sister,
it makes life very hard". "Explain!!", said
Alicia stamping her foot as the fire truck got nearer. "One!!",
said Douglas, "My father is not on duty at the fire station
today". "So!!". said Alicia. "So!!",
said Douglas, "Mark over the road has dad's beeper. If
there was a call-out Mark would have had to go, we haven't seen
Mark leave the house and his car is still there so he has to be
at home. That's Two, and tree is, that is the old fire truck,
No.742, we don't use it any more, it was standing outside the
fire station with a 'For Sale' sign on it". "Well
maybe they bought it then", said Alicia. "They still
couldn't of driven it away, it's waiting for two new tyres, they
won't be here till Friday", said Douglas. He stopped, out
of breath, "will you get Nan or granddad to ring the
cops?", he looked up at Alicia. "I doubt it",
said Alicia, giving him another one of those looks that tells you
you're not going to get anywhere and you have to do it
yourself.
