*** The Robbery ***

by Bobby Mac

part 1 of 14 (the robbery)

Douglas and his cousins, Alicia and Karl, were sitting around their
Nanna's kitchen table trying out her latest batch of chocolate cakes
when granddad rushed in.
"Turn the radio on quick", he said to Douglas, "Jack just picked up some news
on the C.B.Radio about a robbery in Marton".
"Wow", said Alicia, "big deal, it's such a big town, they probably got
enough for their bus fare out of here, and I wish I could join them,
instead of having to babysit you two". while she was talking
she made a face at her young brother Karl and her cousin Douglas.
Karl tried to get his sister's attention by making a movement of his head
towards their cousin Douglas. He mouthed the words silently,
"Aunty is at work in the shop".
There was nothing on the radio about Marton, so granddad phoned the supermarket
to make sure his daughter Anne-marie, Douglas's mum was safe. When he got off
the phone he gave Douglas a wink.
"Mum's okay, but they were robbed just a while ago, by a real pair of losers,
who forgot to pull down their balaclavas before they went past the security camera.
Then, they had trouble starting their car, which is an old pink ford with a
bright yellow roof, and the back doors are blue and green".
"Our life skills lecturer, Ms. Jeanette McDonald would describe that as
a visual symphony in flight", said Alicia.
"In my day", said Nan, "Visual symphony's were kept in private".
"Was that when you walked ten miles through blizzards to school each day", shouted Karl
and, he and Douglas ducked out of Nan's reach.
"Hey!! perhaps the crooks will go past, last one to the gate needs visual sympathy",
shouted Karl, tossing his head back and making a face at his sister
as he ran out the door.
