** Magpies **
*** On Alert
***
by Bobby Mac
part 3 of 13 ( on alert
)
Henry told Tigger what he had heard. After listening
quietly, Tigger stroked his long grey whiskers with his paw,
arched his back and stretched out, "UM !!", he said, "UM
!!, well I think I should talk to Sasha, and Caesar, Granny's
German Shepherd dogs, or even Max the pup, but in the meantime,
Henry you go back to your home and listen out to see if you can
hear anything else, Smokey you're on guard at the front of the
house, Shadow you watch the back, but keep out of sight, if the
Magpies see you they may dive bomb you even at night". "They
would have to catch me first", said Shadow. Tigger went
around to the side verandah, "good a handy chair", he
thought, and got on it. One easy jump from that and he was up
on Granny's high bedroom window sill. He jumped down on the
inside onto Granny and Granddad's big soft bed, he rolled
around and stretched a bit then walked to the end of the bed
and looked in the bedroom mirror. "Umm, Umm, I'm a fine
specimen still", he said as he jumped off the bed and
wandered out into the big hall, past the sitting room, past the
dining room into the big kitchen, well it was in fact a kitchen
at one end, the rest of the room had a table and chairs and a big
couch plus three or four big chairs and in one corner was a
thing called a T.V., that used to have pictures on and noise
coming out of it, not that Tigger minded the T.V., only
when Granny was paying more attention to that than him, wanting
his back or neck gently stroked. He thought about going for a
nice soft stroke now but, no, while Sooty, his best mate, was
at the Vets, Tigger would have to do everything himself. He
strolled through the kitchen, past the table and chairs down
towards the big sofa, he could see Sasha's legs sticking out
from behind Granddad's chair. Slowly she stuck her head out,
gave a little groan and started to go back to sleep. "Hey
!, stay awake sleepy, we might have trouble brewing !",
Tigger said.
