part 12 of 13 (
victory)
Tigger the cat, watched the Magpies fly away, then
he strolled through the trees towards the hen house. “Roland
Rooster my friend, would you please signal victory to the
troops, and call them all to a meeting at the old shed behind
the hen house?”, he asked. “Of course, with
pleasure!!”, said Roland, and gave a long loud
“cock- a-doodle Dooo”. The animals and birds
gathered at the shed, Charlotte hen coming in last with Phylis
and Daphne, the two ducks from the pond, who were still shaking
the weeds off their necks. “I thought I was going to
bust”, said Phylis, “Magpies are silly, don't they
know ducks can put their heads under water?”. “I
don't think they know about china eggs”, said Max, dropping
them on the floor. “They certainly didn't know about
Granny's Lion Tail on a stick”, said Tigger, “and
they have obviously haven't been around when Granddad's been
turning the compost”. They all laughed. “Funs
over”, said Tigger, “let's get tidied up before Granny
and Granddad wake up, we should just have time before
breakfast”. Charlotte Hen flew up on a table, “I
would just like to thank Matilda Duck for sitting on my nest
and keeping my eggs warm while I was play-acting for the
Magpies”, she said, “and I think Tigger deserves
three cheers and a big thank you for such a brilliant plan”.
So they all cheered “Hip, hip, hooray!!”, and,
“thank you Tigger!!”. Tigger in his proud yet humble
way said, “think nothing of it”. Henry Hedgehog
and all his relations, scurried to the lawn where all the fur
was, and they rolled on their backs and quickly scooped up all
the loose fur, then they went under the back fence to where
Mrs. Rosie Rabbit was waiting with a big comb. She quickly got
the fur off each hedgehog as they arrived and soon had it all in
the burrows where it had come from, “Funny the Magpies not
knowing the difference between rabbit and cat fur”, she
laughed.
