*** Christmas Season ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

Christmas season is upon us once again
the happy season, causing not joy but pain
commercialism has taken it in a firm hold
even wanting it twice a year, this I'm told
presents are no longer made by hand with love
but bought and the price the measure of the dove
ask a child what they got given for christmas
and get given a report on their financial fitness
what happened to spreading good will and cheer
now there is only keeping civil and if lucky a beer
think back when this time was special
and in humanity's bosom we would nestle
this can be again but takes a seed
for the feeling to flourish and good will to feed
