*** Flown the Coup ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

he turns sixteen in a couple of months
so very long since he had the mumps
went to visit his half brother recently
where he has decided stay unrepentantly
my son turns up at four in the morning
banging on the door while I'm yawning
sent him and his friend to bed with little said
even if for a night good to have him home in his bed
twelve comes round and still no sign of them rising
got out my pots and started clanging, they got up, surprising
after a shower and a feed, plus asking for a loan
it was once again time for them to roam
yes my boy has gone and flown the coup
isn't it funny how life has gone full loop
like dad I'm sitting here on my lonesome
wandering how he is, my own son
