*** Friday ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

Today was Friday when I awoke, or so I thought,
with bags under my eyes, from little sleep I caught.
After the ritual shower, shave and clean of teeth,
it was off to the shop I walk to buy some beef.
with goods in hand, I got to counter oops no card,
I had to put them back as shop credit was barred.
Off back home I wonder, trying to keep my cool,
thinking you will have to go twice now you fool.
It's a good day, yet I muttered, this day is a curse,
the card wasn't the only thing forgotten, was worse.
Inside the house my keys through the window I see,
so I walk into town to the real estate for a spare key.
Only find when I get there there's no sign on display,
it's hardly surprising really being that it's Saturday.
Return home with a coat-hanger to try on the door,
with no cigarettes as well the day was quite a chore.
failing miserably, I end up using the tried and true,
a brick mixed with a window, and then I'm through.
