*** Growing Old ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

Just when was it that I started growing old ?
I'm sure it was only yesterday I was young and bold
yet here I am as I look at myself in the mirror
with wrinkles and hair loss and diminishing demur
on the inside I still feel so young at heart
even if my body tells me it's starting to fall apart
I used to hold my son in my two hands
now he's all grown up and six feet he stands
next will come the title, you know the one
the one you get when your son has his own son
then it's official, and there's no turning back
grandparents are old, that's just a matter of fact
although young and bold was just yesterday
being old tomorrow is reality for me today
