*** Challenge Poem 28 ***

*** The Keyboard ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

my fingers are resting on the keyboard
glancing out the window, the view is seaward
wondering what topic about I should write
my pc the answer, setting my fingers in flight
a marvelous invention the computer
get so attached you'd think it a suitor
I gaze upon it for hours at a time
to turn it off, would seem like a crime
through it I have found many new friends
yet ironically reality it transcends
sending out messages into cyberspace
real people and life it does replace
no longer do I go out to catch a show
download it for free, now I'm a couch potato
now when I want to visit, I send an email
there's no point in phoning, the call would fail
I've become addicted to this artificial mindset
to me life now means surfing the internet
