*** Mask in the Dark ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

you, standing there behind a mask
the one that hides your hidden task
wearing a person like a set of clothes
all the while lurking for whatever goes
secretly licking your lips at the prospect
as you display the worst kind respect
the one that sports that glued on smile
with a polished act, proceeds to defile
to use a mask you must feel ashamed
is your face ugly, or are you maimed?
has dear mummy beaten poor little you?
or did she simply burn you with the stew?
perhaps it's because of still wetting the bed
anything but the truth, you're stuffed in the head
darkness will invade your grotesque face
when I rip it off and publish it in cyberspace
