*** Testament ***

by 'Barry R. Long'

I walked into town to collect the dole,
feeling the torment of a warn out soul.
my life so I thought had been extremely harsh,
for it seemed sorrowful from beginning to last.
I asked God what have I done, was I unfit,
may he bestow another, don't I deserve it.
Felt utterly weary I just had to sit down,
found a bench and sat wearing a frown.
Around about then I heard a rat-a-tat-tat,
noise was a blind man as a matter of fact.
Sat down quietly beside me his body bent,
with not even a trace of acknowledgement.
Hear a voice inside me say ok swap away,
well ok perhaps my life really isn't so grey.
So the blind man gets up and toddles off,
unaware the impact departs with a cough.
My God this is my testament to you true,
you saved me from a life of feeling blue.
